Integrated Composites, Inc. Receives Third Production Order from U.S. Army for Composite Universal Weapons Pylon
Integrated Composites, Inc., an the AGC Aerospace & Defense company, has been awarded a third U.S. Army contract for follow-on production of the lightweight Composite Universal Weapons Pylon (CUWP) for Kiowa Warrior helicopters.
“We are very pleased to receive this order to extend the production program through late 2013,” said Preston Sandusky, chief operating officer of Integrated Composites. “This award enables Integrated Composites to maintain production continuity as the U.S. Army moves toward full-fleet fielding of the CUWP.”
The CUWP is a next generation weapons pylon designed and produced by Integrated Composites in order to lighten the helicopter and improve mission capability. The previous older generation model was made out of metal and weighed considerably more than the new carbon composite design. Through further analysis, as well as extensive testing, it was proven that this composite design was significantly stronger than the original metal pylon. The CUWP is mounted on the sides of the Bell OH-58D Kiowa Warrior, an armed scout attack helicopter.
